Hot Tub Tip Thursday: Use Jet Clean

Leisure-Time-Jet-Clean1Over the past few weeks, we’ve had a lot of phone calls with customers complaining about, “junk coming out of their pipes.” It’s a common problem in hot tubs, usually caused by improper oxidation. Or, in simpler terms, lack of shock. Maybe you’ve been gone a couple of weeks or maybe you’ve just skimped on the shock. Whatever the case may be, it’s a curable problem and one that shouldn’t worry you.

The first thing you want to do is pour a bottle of jet clean into your tub. Jet clean, as the name implies, cleans out the jets and pipes of your tub. Pour the whole bottle into the tub, run the jets for 15-20 minutes, drain the tub, and refill it. After that, use shock (2 tbs) and chlorine (2 tbs) in your tub and then clean your filter. For the next week or so, overuse shock and chlorine to keep your water clear, then bring it back down to normal levels (1 tbs per person of shock after every use and 1 tbs of chlorine a week).
